Allen Drury

Allen Stuart Drury (2. septembar 1918 – 2. septembar 1998) bio je američki književnik i novinar, najpoznatiji po debitantskom romanu Advise and Consent za koga je 1960. godine osvojio Pulitzerovu nagradu za fikciju, i za koga se često navodi da je stvorio moderni žanr političke fikcije.

Drury je inspiraciju za taj roman pronašao u vlastitim iskustvima dopisnika United Pressa u američkom Senatu od 1943. do 1945. godine, kada se temeljito upoznao s najmoćnijim ljudima i stekao insajdersko znanje o metodama rada i naličju političkog establishmenta. Za razliku od većine svojih kolega, Drury je bio konzervativni desničar i gorljivi antikomunist, duboko uvjeren kako američki liberali potkopavaju državu u Hladnom ratu, a što se itekako odrazilo na njegov opus. Advise and Consent je, međutim, usprkos toga, doživio izuzetan uspjeh i kod publike i kod kritike, te potakao zapaženu filmsku adaptaciju, ali i pisanje još nekoliko nastavaka. Drury je osim tih romana napisao nekoliko romana posvećenih Drevnom Egiptu, odnosno univerzitetskom životu.
