Tropidophis – rodzaj węży z rodziny boaszkowatych (Tropidophiidae).
Zasięg występowania
Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące na Karaibach (Bahamy, Kuba, Kajmany, Jamajka, Haiti, Dominika oraz Turks i Caicos) i w Ameryce Południowej (Brazylia, Ekwador i Peru)[7][8].
Systematyka
Etymologia
- Tropidophis: gr. τροπις tropis, τροπιδος tropidos „kil statku”[9]; οφις ophis, οφεως opheōs „wąż”[10].
- Leionotus: gr. λειος leios „gładki”[11]; νωτον nōton „grzbiet”[12]. Gatunek typowy: Leionotus maculatus Cocteau & Bibron, 1843.
- Ungalia: etymologia nieznana, Gray nie wyjaśnił pochodzenia nazwy zwyczajowej[4]. Gatunek typowy: Boa melanura Schlegel, 1837.
- Erycopsis: rodzaj Eryx Daudin, 1803; gr. οψις opsis „wygląd”[13]. Gatunek typowy: Boa melanura Schlegel, 1837.
- Notophis: gr. νωτον nōton „grzbiet”[12]; οφις ophis, οφεως opheōs „wąż”[10]. Gatunek typowy: Notophis bicarinatus Hallowell, 1856 (= Boa melanura Schlegel, 1837).
