Frederick Henry Ambrose Scrivener

Frederick Henry Ambrose Scrivener (29 September 1813  –  30 Oktober 1891) adalah seorang pakar kritik teks Perjanjian Baru asal Britania Raya yang penting dan anggota dari Komisi Revisi Perjanjian Baru Bahasa Inggris yang menghasilkan Alkitab bahasa Inggris Versi Revisi. Ia merupakan seorang prebendary di Exeter, dan vicar di Hendon.

Karier

Setelah lulus dari Trinity College, Cambridge pada tahun 1835 sesudah belajar di Southwark,^[1] ia menjadi guru mata pelajaran "Klasik" pada sejumlah sekolah di Inggris selatan, dan dari tahun 1846 sampai 1856 ia menjadi kepala sekolah di Falmouth, Cornwall. Ia juga bekerja selama 15 tahun sebagai rektor Gerrans, Cornwall.

Pada awalnya ia terkenal berkat suntingannya atas Codex Bezae Cantabrigiensis, kemudian Scrivener menyunting beberapa edisi Perjanjian Baru dan membuat kolasi Codex Sinaiticus dengan Textus Receptus. Atas sumbangsihnya pada bidang kritik teks dan pemahaman naskah-naskah Alkitab, ia diberi penghargaan "Civil list pension" pada tahun 1872. Ia merupakan seorang advokat untuk teks Bizantin (teks mayoritas) terhadap naskah-naskah yang lebih modern sebagai sumber penerjemahan Alkitab. Ia adalah orang pertama yang membedakan Textus Receptus dari teks Bizantin. Scrivener membandingkan Textus Receptus dengan edisi-edisi Stephanus (1550), Theodore Beza (1565), dan Elzevier (1633) serta membuat daftar semua perbedaannya. Selain itu ia mengidentifikasi perbedaan-perbedaan antara Textus Receptus dengan edisi-edisi karya Lachmann, Tregelles, dan Tischendorf. Scrivener meragukan keotentikan teks seperti Matius 16:2b–3, Kristus berdoa di taman Getsemani, Yohanes 5:3.4, dan Pericope Adulterae.

Pada tahun 1874, ia menjadi prebendary di Exeter, dan vicar di Hendon, yang dijabatnya sampai akhir hidupnya.
